Measure awkward pieces
Long fence panels and branches may be difficult to estimate as a simple pile. Note approximate lengths and quantities, and ask about any preparation required. Do not dismantle or cut materials solely to fit an assumed container without discussing suitability and safe loading.
Keep weight in the conversation
If the work includes paving, soil or concrete, give a separate estimate for those materials. Explain whether they are already loose or still in place. Discuss the proposed load and any limits before treating all outdoor waste as one category.
Describe access after the work begins
